STC/Intertek Graduate Student Research Awards

STC awards

PURPOSE

In collaboration with our sponsor, Intertek, the STC will be offering Graduate student research awards for the best poster presentation for one MSc and one PhD student.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Submit an abstract at the annual symposium
  • Be a registered graduate student

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants must submit an abstract and their most recent CV on the symposium registration website (link on the Symposium information webpage) in order to be eligible. The top three abstracts in each category (MSc and PhD) will be entered into the poster judging phase of the selection process. The Awards Selection Committee will then determine the winners of the STC Intertek Award on the basis of the poster presentation at the Symposium, according to the criteria described below.

SELECTION/PROCESS CRITERIA

abstract (clarity of language and ideas); poster quality (clarity of ideas, data, conclusions, and visual impression of poster); and informal student presentation (ability to explain the work in a short time and respond to questions).

Please note:

  1. No student is allowed to receive the award more than once during their studies for a specific degree (MSc or PhD).
  2. All Student Award Applicants will be advised well in advance of the Symposium whether or not their poster has been selected for judging for a STC Intertek Award.
  3. Only those six students who have been advised that their abstract has been selected for inclusion in the poster judging phase will be visited by the Awards Selection Committee for judging purposes at the Symposium.
