Dr. Raju is a federal Research Scientist in Health Canada’s Regulatory Toxicology Research Division, Food Directorate. Completing his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Life Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India, Dr. Raju received his post-doctoral training at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, MB, Canada), the American Health Foundation Institute for Cancer Prevention (Valhalla, NY, USA), and the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, ON, Canada). Dr. Raju delivers toxicological expertise related to carcinogenesis and co-carcinogenesis of food chemicals; current projects include the hazard characterizations of process-induced contaminants chloropropanols and the food additive titanium dioxide. Additionally, his laboratory has a focus in understanding (a) nutritional effects (fermentable fibres); (b) toxicity to the gastrointestinal tract; (c) exposure-related toxicological/carcinogenic mode of action; toxicogenomic targets.
